What does it feel like to be part of a project?
One of the biggest highlights for me so far was walking past the first building project I was assigned to after it had been completed and thinking to myself that I was a part of the team that completed that project. I can recall what the building looked like stripped back to its bones and think of how it was put back together, something not everyone gets to experience.
What potential roles could you move into in the future?
With further training and/or experience, Diploma graduates may be able to work as senior quantity surveyors, registered quantity surveyors, estimators, consultants/contractors, procurement managers or senior/cost managers.
I completed a Bachelor of Architectural Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, although not with the goal of becoming a Quantity Surveyor. It was a guest lecturer that sparked my interest in it and helped me down that path. I started as a full-time cadet Quantity Surveyor with Rawlinsons in December 2013 so I am still relatively new to the industry. I’m currently studying a Diploma of Quantity Surveying through the Open Polytechnic.
